SERMON NOTES | Easter 2023

When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint Jesus. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.  And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.  ~ Mark 16:1-2, 5-6

It was the Lord’s Day, and I (John) was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast. ~ Revelation 1:10 (nlt)

When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands.  And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man.  He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across His chest. His head and His hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And His eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and His voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars in His right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from His mouth. And His face was like the sun in all its brilliance. ~ Revelation 1:12-16 (nlt)

When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as if I were dead. But He laid His right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last.  I am the living One. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave. ~ Revelation 1:17-18 (nlt)

Then I saw a scroll in the right hand of the One who was sitting on the throne. There was writing on the inside and the outside of the scroll, and it was sealed with seven seals.  And I saw a strong angel, who shouted with a loud voice: “Who is worthy to break the seals on this scroll and open it?”  But no one in Heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll and read it. ~ Revelation 5:1-3 (nlt)

But no one in Heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll and read it. ~ Revelation 5:3

Then I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it. ~ Revelation 5:4 (nlt)

But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.” ~ Revelation 5:5 (nlt)

Then I saw a Lamb… ~ Revelation 5:6 (nlt)

And when He took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. And they sang a new song with these words:

“You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For You were slaughtered, and Your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.  And You have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth.” ~ Revelation 5:8-10 (nlt)

Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders.  And they sang in a mighty chorus:

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered— to receive power and riches
and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.” ~ Revelation 5:11-12 (nlt)

And then I heard every creature in Heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. NOTE: Wow. Every creature singing. What a scene that will be and what an amazing choir this will be)They sang:

“Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the One sitting on the throne (God the Father) and to the Lamb (Jesus Christ) forever and ever.” ~ Revelation 5:13 (nlt)
